Hotel Colombo

Rooms are ok for the price, clean and have all you need for a short stay. Location is good, at walking distance from the Central Station and historical center of Naples. Surroundings may look dirty and dark but we never felt unsafe during the day and also returning to the hotel at night. Last but not least: the staff! All the people with whom we interacted were super friendly and helpful, even offered to keep our bags for free after checkout until 11pm since our train only left at that time!

Stayed at Hotel Colombo whilst visiting Naples for a long weekend. The hotel is situated down a side street not far from the central station (very easy to catch trains to Pompeii and Herculaneum) and nearby to restaurants and bars. When we arrived on the friday night the street the hotel is located on and the ones nearby were full of men selling what appeared to be second hand clothes and shoes all set out on the floor. It was busy and daunting. This lasted all weekend but they had all disappeared by Monday morning! The streets surrounding the hotel are heavily littered and not very nice to walk around but the hotel itself is nice. Its only a 3 star so don't expect luxury but the rooms are clean and the bedding/towels changed daily. The staff are super helpful and cannot do enough for you. Most of them speak very good English too. The breakfast was basic (cheese pie, cereals, juice, pastries, bread rolls with butter/jam and tea and coffee) however the dining facilities are clean and the food provided is fresh and tasty. I would recommend the Colombo as a base whilst visiting Naples as its so convenient for the train station however, given the littering and general dirtiness of city, I would not be in a hurry to return. If you are visiting Naples though do NOT catch a taxi from the airport. We were fleeced out of €55 euros for our journey when in actual fact an Uber only costs €27 and the Alibus is €5 (caught from outside the airport and takes you to the central Garibaldi station. On return it leaves outside the central Garibaldi station and drops you right outside the departures at the airport. Only takes 15 mins too!)
